Back from Florida

Well, I’m just back from a whirlwind trip to Florida, ostensibly to visit Joan and John (both of whom are doing very well, John is recovering from colon cancer which was discovered last year, he is doing very well and looks terrific!) but it turned into a power shopping expedition (I am my mother’s child apparently, for those of you who may have had your doubts) and a determination on my part to spend much more time with people with cataracts (“My God! You look wonderful! You don’t look older than 28”). The most difficult part of the trip was getting my suitcase, which was 12 pounds over the 50 pound limit into and out of my car (just remember lift with your knees and not with your back!)

Fwd: A Story About Tal

Lately, Tallis has been asking me if he will get to live in the future and I always tell him "definitely". He beams.

It's so great to see your kid so happy that they beam. It reminds me of a comedian who does a bit about kids (the Everybody Loves Raymond guy). He talks about his five year old looking out a window, just smiling. He asked him what he was thinking about. With a dreaminess in his voice, his kid said "candy". He noted that it was so incredible to be able to be so happy just thinking about candy.

Having Tallis ask me about "living in the future" and beaming when I tell him "yes" is kind of like that. But, you know, it's also kind of hard to think about because OF COURSE he'll get to live in the future so I always say "yes" and he always beams when I tell him that.

Just the other morning, he asked again. I said what I usually say but then added that it's the future in five minutes, in five weeks, in five years. I asked him what it was that he really wanted to know. He said that he wanted to know if he was going to get to live with robots.

Robots? Hmmm. I mentioned that robots are already here. I pointed out that he's met roboticists (he's met several, actually) who showed him pictures of their robots. Tallis explained that those robots weren't enough, that he wanted more robots. He wanted robots in the air and he wanted robots on the ground. He wanted lots of robots. He wanted to know if he was going to be able to live in THAT future with LOTS of robots. I thought about it for a minute and I told him that he definitely would.

He beamed.

You know what. I want to see that too.

Cailee & Willie Ton Moby Dick

This is Cakies favorite ride. She and Willie T are sort of in the center, Cake is in the yellow pants. She didn't smile until it really started moving, this video is towards the end of the ride.

Jade After The Picnic With The China Girls

We went to a picnic with some of the families we traveled to China with. Jade had such a good time she didn't want to leave, within 30 seconds of getting into the car (to go home) she fell asleep but woke up half way home and cried the ENTIRE REST OF THE WAY HOME!

This is a video of Jade shortly after we got home, thank god for tattoos!!! And yes, I know, the scissors look really dangerous. . . .:)
